This classic jasper comes from the famous Biggs Triangle in Oregon, where several kinds of beloved jaspers are found. The fellow who owns the China Hollow mine named the material after the creek that the mine sits in, which is very close to the town of Biggs. All the jaspers from the Biggs area developed from decomposed volcanic ash that mixed with silica & iron. This soup was then transformed by the pressures of heat and water as lava flowed over the top of it, manipulating the iron contents to redeposit in the form of the many delicate, parallel bands and marbled patterns that the jaspers are so famous for. China Hollow’s spin on this is that dendrites formed into the landscape scene as well, and they look just like trees perched on a hill with radiating horizons behind them. Fantastic! Though this material is still being collected today, this slab happens to come from old-stock rough.

This is a rough, unpolished slab. Please observe images closely for flaws, as some degree of that is normal. Pictured wet and dry.
