This jasper comes from the Dead Camel Mountains of Western Nevada and belongs to a family of jaspers collectively known as Lahotanite, named for a nearby lake. It's extremely hard and therefore takes an excellent polish. This cab is showing horizontal formations reminiscent of a landscape in a desert palette of earthy terracotta reds and oranges against a light, dusty pink background, with a few small flashes of yellow, green, and taupe. If you look closely, this cab also has tiny fragments of metallic inclusions. Fantastic! A truly gorgeous jasper. I cut this with a fairly pillowy dome in a smooth, teardrop shape.
