Death Valley Paint Rock Slab
Death Valley Paint Rock Slab
Also referred to as Indian Paint Stone, this material from Death Valley, California gets its characteristic painterly brush strokes from iron and manganese inclusions. The site of the deposit has since been incorporated into a national park and collecting it is therefore no longer permitted. One of the particularly striking aspects of this material are the hairline streaks of hematite that tend to run through the center of the more prominent iron ochre-colored sections, which can add a surprising steel-grey shimmer to an already dramatically beautiful composition. This particular piece also happens to display some fantastic dendrites!
This is a rough, unpolished slab. Please observe images closely for flaws, as some degree of that is normal. Pictured wet and dry.
