Norwegian Thulite Slab
Norwegian Thulite Slab
This material, sometimes also referred to as Rosaline, is a manganese-bearing variety of zoisite mottled with calcite and quartz. It is said to come from several locations, but is perhaps best known for its deposits in Norway, where it was first discovered in 1820. It’s named for the mythical island of Thule, which is an ancient name for Scandinavia, and it is the national gemstone of Norway. Deposits thought to be Thulite in areas outside of Norway may not actually be true zoisite, but rather a clinozoisite, such as the deposits found in North Carolina. Specific origin: Tvedestrand and Leksvik in Sorlandet, Aust-Auger. This material sparkles a lot in the sun!
This is a rough, unpolished slab. Please observe images closely for flaws, as some degree of that is normal. Pictured wet and dry.
