Phosphosiderite is known for its orchid-purple color but is also found in rose red, reddish yellow, mossy green, and dark shades of purple. It’s comprised primarily of iron and phosphate (“sideros” is the Greek word for iron). The yellow coloration within the matrix is cacoxenite. It also occurs as a colorless mineral. A close relative of turquoise, phosphosiderite is similarly soft and can therefore benefit from stabilization. This slab is showing the orchid-purple color it’s famous for, as well as the cacoxenite-yellow matrix. There is some vugging within the matrix - another factor that would favor stabilization prior to cutting. Great color and a fantastically complex matrix! A must for purple and pink lovers! Also great for anyone who would appreciate what is essentially the pink-purple version of turquoise! From Argentina.

This is a rough, unpolished slab. Please observe images closely for flaws, as some degree of that is normal. Pictured wet and dry.
