Austrian Pinolith Cabochon
Austrian Pinolith Cabochon
For those who love a black-and-white palette, or a fine, intricate matrix - or better yet, both - this stone is hard to beat! White magnesite crystals are surrounded by a shimmery, fine-lined, grey and black matrix of dolomite and graphite in this starkly dramatic material. A very special stone that comes from only a few small deposits in Styria, Austria and Spain. The scene in this angular freeform resembles the stacked intricacy of a cellular wall or a dense bunching of leaves, with lots of moody graphite inclusions scribbled throughout. Any pattern found on Pinolith would make a spectacular pen-and-ink or charcoal drawing.
