Rhodochrosite Cabochon

From the famed Capillitas mines of Argentina comes the unforgettable Rhodochrosite! If you love pink gemstones, there is no denying it. This cab boasts fantastically gemmy bands of rose-pink color throughout! I cut this in a slightly asymmetrical, freeform teardrop shape to accentuate and follow the color bands as much as possible, and what an absolute pleasure it is to cut! Rhodochrosite is soft, yet incredibly dense and smooth. Despite its softness, it takes a lovely polish, and it shimmers gently when turned in the light. Always dreamy and vastly deserving of its reputation as one of the most beautiful pink stones in the world! This piece does have a partially-healed micro hairline running diagonally along the top right side - it is the meeting point of two different mineral compositions; it held up very well to cutting and I can not even feel it across the surface of either side. Nevertheless, handling this area with extra-special care when setting would be best practice.
