This material comes from Pershing County, in northwestern Nevada, and is beloved for its ribbon-like brecciations that tend to cluster together in parallel striations. It’s known by several different names: Howardite, Rattlesnake Jasper, Royal Flamingo Agate, and Flamingoite, the latter two being newer names and the former two stemming from seemingly the same (yet observably different) material first discovered in the same area in the 1950s. It’s also likely that the name divergence stemmed from the need to differentiate it from another material named Howardite, which is a meteorite!

At any rate, this stuff has a reputation for being a bit vuggy and this slab is no exception. A few of the vuggs penetrate through to the other side; however, some are also lined with beautiful druzy, which can make for awesome features in cabs. About a third of this slab is significantly translucent between the brecciations (see backlit photos), and there are some beautiful little streaks of light blue agate. A few tiny areas where the brecciation turns white are calcified.

This is a rough, unpolished slab. Please observe images closely for flaws, as some degree of that is normal. Pictured wet and dry.
